Emmy award winning KTLA reporter Wendy Burch was covering the annual Hermosa Beach Ironman on Tuesday in Los Angeles County when a competitor vomited on her.
While interviewing one of the hundreds of participants, one man vomited all over the interview shoulders. Cameras were rolling during the incident and managed to capture Burch’s response in a clip that’s making the rounds on social media.
“Oh, no, no,” she said as anchors in the studio watched in horror.
Burch wrote a blog post after the event describing what went down, she revealed that a glitch caused the camera to freeze just as she was hit.
Unaware of the glitch, which prompted a cut back to the studio, Burch continued her interview covered in puke. She carried on for a full two minutes, unaware that she was no longer on the air, she said she continued to interview revelers on the scene, “while sudsy substances flew in the air and landed in my hair.”
“After that, it was a wrap,” she said. “I drove home, took a hot shower and a long nap.”
She also had a message for anyone wanting to enter the journalism industry.
“To all of you aspiring journalists out there, I’m here to tell you, dreams really do come true… especially in the age of viral videos,” she wrote.
