James McAllister, known as ‘Big Jas’ to friends, was shaking hands with people paying their respects at the funeral of his wife Kathleen on Wednesday when he collapsed beside her grave.
“Naturally it was just a big shock,” said Fr. Luke McWilliams, who officiated at Mrs. McAlister’s funeral, the community has been left in “shock”.
“A lot of people were standing around praying and hoping he would recover.” he continued. “There was a very big attendance at the funeral of Kathleen and a lot were in attendance when Jimmy died by her graveside.”
The Priest added “It’s very rare for that to happen you don’t come across it very often.”
The Irish News reports that people, including a doctor, attempted to resuscitate him but had no success.
Kathleen McAllister passed away on Monday. Mr. McCallister’s funeral will take place on Friday at St Mary’s Church in Cushendall Ireland on Friday.
The couple were both in their 70s.
